Frequently Asked Questions
What is rhythmic gymnastics?+
Rhythmic gymnastics is a sport that combines gymnastics, dance, and flexibility. Athletes perform routines to music using apparatus like ribbon, hoop, ball, rope, and clubs.
What age can children start rhythmic gymnastics?+
Children can start as early as 3 years old in preschool classes designed to build coordination, flexibility, and basic movement skills.
Does my child need experience to join?+
No experience is needed. Beginner classes are designed for students who are new to rhythmic gymnastics.
What should my child wear to class?+
A leotard with white socks, or leggings with a tank top and white socks. No jewelry. Hair should be pulled up.
What programs do you offer?+
We offer preschool classes, beginner rhythmic gymnastics classes, flexibility and conditioning classes, ballet, and a competitive team program.
How do students move to higher levels?+
In USAG rhythmic gymnastics, athletes progress through Levels 3-10 and can advance to Elite. Advancement is based on coach evaluation of skill readiness, age eligibility, and competition performance. Athletes generally move up one level at a time after competing at their current level. At RRT, Coach Ella assesses each gymnast's technique and readiness and recommends when they are prepared for the next level.
Do you have a competitive team?+
Yes. Students who show strong ability and commitment may be invited to join the competitive team.
How do I register my child?+
You can register through our website or contact us directly for class availability.
Can my child try a class first?+
Yes, trial classes may be available depending on space in the class.
Where are you located?+
We have two locations: McKinney (4260 Eldorado Pkwy, 2nd Floor) and Frisco (10825 John W. Elliott Dr, Suite 400). Both are easily accessible from across the Dallas-Fort Worth area.
Do you serve families from Dallas and surrounding cities?+
Yes. While our studios are in McKinney and Frisco, we welcome families from across the DFW metroplex, including Plano, Allen, Prosper, Celina, The Colony, Little Elm, Richardson, Murphy, and beyond. Many of our families drive 20-30 minutes to attend classes.
Is rhythmic gymnastics the same as gymnastics?+
Yes. Rhythmic gymnastics is one of the official Olympic disciplines of gymnastics, alongside artistic gymnastics, trampoline, and acrobatic gymnastics. It is governed by USA Gymnastics and the International Gymnastics Federation (FIG). Unlike artistic gymnastics, rhythmic gymnastics does not use bars, beam, or vault - it focuses on flexibility, dance, body movement, and the manipulation of five hand-held apparatus (rope, hoop, ball, clubs, and ribbon) performed to music.
Is rhythmic gymnastics good for toddlers and young kids?+
Absolutely. Our preschool program is designed specifically for girls ages 3-5 and is one of the best ways to build coordination, flexibility, posture, and musicality at a young age. Classes use age-appropriate apparatus play, music, and creative movement to develop core motor skills in a safe, encouraging environment - no tumbling required.
Do you offer gymnastics classes for girls in DFW?+
Yes. RRT is a girls' rhythmic gymnastics academy serving the entire Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex from our McKinney and Frisco studios. Programs are open to girls ages 3 and up, with separate tracks for toddlers, beginners, and competitive athletes. Many families travel from Plano, Allen, Prosper, Dallas, Fort Worth, and surrounding cities.
