About Our McKinney Studio
RRT’s McKinney studio is on the second floor of Zenith Elite Gymnastics Academy at 4260 W Eldorado Parkway. The 12,000 square foot facility hosts both Zenith’s own programs and RRT’s rhythmic classes. McKinney is our larger location and the only one offering a midweek class option (Wednesdays 6 PM) in addition to Saturday afternoon, which works well for families whose weekends are crowded with other activities.
Eldorado Parkway runs east-west through central McKinney, with quick access from both Highway 75 and the Sam Rayburn Tollway. Typical drive times: Frisco 15-20 min, Plano 15-20 min, Allen 10-15 min, Prosper 15-20 min.
What to Expect
The trial class follows the same structure as a regular 90-minute session. Your child will experience every part of a real class - warm-up, ballet, body technique, and apparatus work. No prior gymnastics experience is needed. Coaches adjust to each child's level and help them feel comfortable from the start.
During the class
- ✓A warm-up with jump rope, light jogging, and active movement games
- ✓Ballet barre work covering basic foot and arm positions, posture, and flexibility
- ✓Body element training - balances, simple pivots, small jumps and leaps
- ✓Hands-on introduction to one or two apparatus (ball, rope, hoop, ribbon, or clubs)
- ✓Partner conditioning exercises that build core and leg strength
What to Bring
- ✓A leotard or fitted athletic clothing that won't ride up during movement
- ✓White socks (no bare feet)
- ✓Hair tied back securely in a ponytail or bun
- ✓No jewelry of any kind (bracelets, earrings, necklaces can snag or cause injury)
- ✓A water bottle
- ✓Arrive 10-15 minutes early for the first class
Common Questions About the Trial
What age is the Beginners program for?
The Beginners Program is for children ages 5 and up with no prior rhythmic gymnastics experience. It is the entry point for learning all five official apparatus, ballet basics, and body technique.
Does my child need to be flexible or strong to start?
Not at all. Flexibility, strength, balance, and coordination are outcomes of training, not prerequisites. Every competitive rhythmic gymnast started as a beginner who could not yet do what they learned to do.
How is rhythmic gymnastics different from artistic gymnastics?
Rhythmic gymnastics is performed with handheld apparatus (ball, rope, hoop, ribbon, clubs) and set entirely to music. It emphasizes grace, expression, and flexibility rather than tumbling and vaulting. There are no bars, beam, or vault events.
Can my child compete after starting as a beginner?
Yes. After 6-18 months of consistent training, beginners can enter USAG Level 3 competitions - the first official competitive level. Our coaches will let you know when your child is ready.
Which class time should I pick - Wednesday or Saturday?
Both are 90 minutes and cover the same material. Wednesday 6 PM is popular with families who keep weekends free for travel sports, family time, or sibling activities. Saturday 12:45 PM works for families who'd rather concentrate everything into one day.
Where do parents wait during class?
The second floor has a viewing area where parents can sit during class. When practices, competitions, or performances are held on the main floor, parents can watch from the main-floor glass viewing area.
