About Our Frisco Studio at Kurt Thomas Gymnastics
RRT’s Frisco classes run inside Kurt Thomas Gymnastics on John W. Elliott Drive, near the Dallas North Tollway and US-380. The facility carries the name of Kurt Thomas – the 1978 World All-Around Champion, two-time Olympian, and the gymnast the “Thomas Flair” is named after. RRT trains in its own dedicated rhythmic gymnastics area inside the building.
Frisco runs as a single Saturday-morning class, 8:30 to 10:00 AM. One focused weekly session is enough for a beginner to build real fundamentals while leaving the rest of the weekend open for family and other activities. It is the only Saturday-morning beginners rhythmic class RRT offers, and the group is still small enough that new gymnasts get plenty of individual coaching.
Most Frisco families drive in from Plano, The Colony, Little Elm, Prosper, and the west side of McKinney. If you are coming from farther out, the gym’s spot right off the tollway and US-380 keeps the trip short from across the northwest metroplex.
What to Expect
Your daughter's first Saturday at Kurt Thomas Gymnastics is a real beginners class, not a watered-down demo. Over 90 minutes she warms up, works the ballet barre, learns a body element or two, and gets her hands on an actual apparatus - usually ribbon or hoop. Coaches meet each new gymnast where she is, so a child who has never pointed a toe and one who already dances both leave having learned something. No experience and no flexibility are needed to start.
During the class
- ✓A warm-up and active-movement games that get muscles ready to stretch
- ✓Ballet barre fundamentals: the basic foot and arm positions, posture, and turnout every routine is built on
- ✓Beginner body elements - balances, small pivots, and the first jumps and leaps
- ✓Hands-on time with a real apparatus, usually ribbon or hoop, the same equipment used in competition
- ✓Light conditioning that builds the core and leg strength flexibility depends on
What to Bring
- ✓A leotard, or fitted athletic clothing that stays put when she moves (no loose t-shirts)
- ✓White socks - rhythmic gymnasts train in socks or half-shoes, never barefoot or in sneakers
- ✓Hair secured in a bun or tight ponytail so it stays out of her face
- ✓No jewelry - bracelets, dangling earrings, and necklaces can catch on an apparatus
- ✓A labeled water bottle
- ✓Arrive by 8:15 AM so there is time to find the rhythmic area inside Kurt Thomas Gymnastics and meet the coach before class
Common Questions About the Trial
When does the Frisco beginners class meet?
Beginners in Frisco train Saturday mornings from 8:30 to 10:00 AM inside Kurt Thomas Gymnastics on John W. Elliott Drive. It is a single 90-minute class each week, which keeps the rest of your Saturday open.
Do we need any experience or flexibility to start?
No. The Beginners Program is the entry point and assumes no prior rhythmic gymnastics, dance, or flexibility. Splits, bridges, and back flexibility are things gymnasts build over months of training, not requirements to walk in the door.
What is rhythmic gymnastics, and how is it different from the tumbling at most gyms?
Rhythmic gymnastics is set to music and performed with five handheld apparatus - rope, hoop, ball, clubs, and ribbon. There is no vault, bars, beam, or tumbling. It blends ballet, flexibility, and apparatus handling, so it looks closer to dance than to artistic gymnastics.
Will my daughter train with the artistic gymnasts at Kurt Thomas Gymnastics?
No. RRT runs its own dedicated rhythmic area inside the facility. Your daughter trains with other rhythmic students under RRT coaches; the artistic programs (bars, beam, vault, tumbling) use a different part of the gym on their own schedule.
Which cities do Frisco families come from?
Our Frisco gymnasts come from Plano, The Colony, Little Elm, Prosper, and west McKinney. Kurt Thomas Gymnastics sits just off the Dallas North Tollway and US-380, so it is an easy drive from across the northwest side of the metroplex.
What happens after the beginners class?
As gymnasts gain fundamentals they progress through the USA Gymnastics Development Program and can enter Level 3, the first competitive level, typically after 6 to 18 months of consistent training. Coaches tell you when your daughter is ready - there is no rush.
Serving Families Across the DFW Area
Our Frisco studio brings rhythmic gymnastics to families throughout the DFW area, from Plano and McKinney to Prosper, The Colony, Little Elm, Allen, Celina, and Richardson. Whether your child is trying gymnastics for the first time or ready to compete, we would love to meet your family.
