About Our McKinney Studio

RRT’s McKinney studio occupies the second floor of Zenith Elite Gymnastics Academy, a 12,000 square foot facility on West Eldorado Parkway. The building also houses Zenith’s own recreational and competitive programs, so families sometimes meet other gymnasts and parents in the lobby on the way in. The main entrance is ADA-compliant and there is accessible parking near the front of the building.

Saturday preschool class starts at 11:30 AM, which lines up well for families who want a single weekend morning commitment. McKinney is easy to reach from Frisco, Allen, and Prosper via Highway 75 or the Sam Rayburn Tollway.

What to Expect

Your child's trial class follows the same structure as a regular session - guided play, creative movement, and hands-on time with colorful apparatus. No prior experience is needed. Coaches are trained in early childhood development and will help your child feel safe, excited, and engaged from the start.

During the class

  • A warm-up with marching, galloping, and animal walks to get your child moving
  • Guided stretching in a circle with playful names like butterfly stretch and pizza stretch
  • Skill stations with ribbons, scarves, balls, and hoops - each visited twice so skills start to stick
  • A cool-down circle where coaches share feedback with parents about what your child practiced

What Preschoolers Find on Day One

Coaches greet each child by name as they come in and bring them onto the floor where class starts. Parents wait in the second-floor viewing area during class. When practices, competitions, or seasonal performances move down to the main floor, parents watch from the glass viewing area there. If your child cries at drop-off, they almost always settle within a few minutes once class starts – by far the most common pattern we see.

What to Bring

  • A leotard or fitted athletic clothing that won't ride up during movement
  • White socks (no bare feet)
  • Hair tied back securely in a ponytail or bun
  • No jewelry of any kind (bracelets, earrings, necklaces can snag or cause injury)
  • A water bottle
  • Arrive 10-15 minutes early for the first class

Common Questions About the Trial

What age can my child start rhythmic gymnastics?

Children can begin as early as age 3 in our Preschool Program. At this age, classes focus on coordination, rhythm, and creative movement through dance and apparatus play rather than competitive skills.

Does my child need gymnastics experience for the trial?

No experience is needed. The trial class is designed for first-timers. Our coaches are trained in early childhood development and will guide your child through every activity at their own pace.

How is rhythmic gymnastics different from tumbling or artistic gymnastics?

Rhythmic gymnastics is dance-based and uses handheld apparatus like ribbons, hoops, and balls. There are no flips, handstands, or high-impact landings. It develops grace, flexibility, coordination, and musicality in a low-injury environment.

What if my child is shy or cries at drop-off?

Completely normal. Most children need 4-6 classes before they fully engage. Crying at drop-off typically resolves within minutes once class begins. Our coaches know how to help children feel safe and excited.
