About Our McKinney Studio
RRT’s McKinney studio occupies the second floor of Zenith Elite Gymnastics Academy, a 12,000 square foot facility on West Eldorado Parkway. The building also houses Zenith’s own recreational and competitive programs, so families sometimes meet other gymnasts and parents in the lobby on the way in. The main entrance is ADA-compliant and there is accessible parking near the front of the building.
The preschool class meets Saturdays at 11:30 AM for one hour - a single, low-commitment weekend morning that suits a three-to-five-year-old’s attention span and nap schedule. McKinney is easy to reach from Frisco, Allen, and Prosper via Highway 75 or the Sam Rayburn Tollway.
What to Expect
A preschool trial at RRT looks like play with a purpose. For about an hour your daughter marches, gallops, stretches with silly names like 'butterfly' and 'pizza,' and rotates through stations with ribbons, scarves, hoops, and balls. There is no tumbling and nothing scary - just music, movement, and a coach trained in early-childhood development who keeps every three-to-five-year-old busy and smiling. First-timers are the rule here, not the exception.
During the class
- ✓Marching, galloping, and animal walks to warm up little bodies
- ✓Circle stretching with playful names - butterfly, pizza, and pancake - that make flexibility feel like a game
- ✓Apparatus stations with ribbons, scarves, hoops, and balls, each visited twice so the skill starts to stick
- ✓Songs, counting, and follow-the-coach games that build listening and rhythm
- ✓A cool-down circle where the coach tells you what your child worked on
What Preschoolers Find on Day One
Coaches greet each child by name as they come in and bring them onto the floor where class starts. Parents wait in the second-floor viewing area during class. When practices, competitions, or seasonal performances move down to the main floor, parents watch from the glass viewing area there. If your child cries at drop-off, they almost always settle within a few minutes once class starts – by far the most common pattern we see.
What to Bring
- ✓A leotard or comfy fitted clothes she can move and stretch in
- ✓White socks - class is done in socks, never bare feet or shoes
- ✓Hair tied back so it stays out of her eyes
- ✓No jewelry
- ✓A labeled water bottle
- ✓Arrive 10-15 minutes early for the first class so she can settle in before the circle starts
Common Questions About the Trial
How young can my child start?
As early as age 3. The Preschool Program runs for ages 3 to 5 and is built around coordination, rhythm, and creative movement rather than competition. It is the step before the Beginners Program, which starts at age 5.
My daughter has never taken a class. Is the trial right for her?
Yes. Almost every preschooler who walks in is a first-timer. The coach is trained in early-childhood development and guides each child through every activity at her own pace.
How is this different from the tumbling class at other gyms?
Rhythmic gymnastics is dance-based and uses light handheld apparatus - ribbons, hoops, scarves, and balls. There are no flips, handstands, or hard landings, so it is a low-injury way for a young child to build grace, balance, and musicality.
What if she cries at drop-off?
Completely normal at this age. Most children settle within a few minutes once the class circle starts, and many need four to six classes before they fully warm up. Our coaches know how to help a shy or teary preschooler feel safe.
Where do parents wait during class?
Parents wait in the second-floor viewing area at Zenith. When performances move down to the main floor, parents watch from the main-floor glass viewing area. The main entrance is ADA-compliant with accessible parking near the front.
What does she need to wear and bring?
A leotard or fitted clothes she can stretch in, white socks (no bare feet), hair tied back, no jewelry, and a water bottle. That is all - there is no apparatus or special shoes to buy for the trial.
