Athletes perform choreographed routines to music using five hand-held apparatus: ribbon, hoop, ball, rope, and clubs. It is a women's discipline at the Summer Olympic Games. It differs from artistic gymnastics, which uses bars, beam, vault, and floor with no apparatus. ## Common Questions - [What age can children start?](https://www.rhythmicribbonoftexas.com/blog/what-age-to-start-rhythmic-gymnastics) - As young as 3 in preschool classes. - [How is rhythmic different from artistic gymnastics?](https://www.rhythmicribbonoftexas.com/blog/rhythmic-vs-artistic-gymnastics) - Apparatus work, music, and routine structure. - [What to expect at a first class](https://www.rhythmicribbonoftexas.com/blog/what-to-expect-first-rhythmic-gymnastics-class) - Dress code, structure, parent expectations. - [How flexibility is trained](https://www.rhythmicribbonoftexas.com/blog/benefits-of-rhythmic-gymnastics-flexibility) - Active end-range work, and what to expect at different ages. - [Confidence and focus benefits](https://www.rhythmicribbonoftexas.com/blog/rhythmic-gymnastics-confidence-focus-girls) - How training builds confidence, focus, and self-discipline. - [Choosing a summer activity in DFW](https://www.rhythmicribbonoftexas.com/blog/summer-activities-active-girls-dfw) - A coach's guide to picking a summer program. - [What the competitive path involves](https://www.rhythmicribbonoftexas.com/blog/competitive-rhythmic-gymnastics) - Season, commitment, evaluations, and a first meet. - [Is rhythmic gymnastics a college sport?](https://www.rhythmicribbonoftexas.com/blog/is-rhythmic-gymnastics-a-college-sport) - The NCAA does not sponsor rhythmic gymnastics, so there is no NCAA varsity rhythmic gymnastics pathway, no NCAA rhythmic gymnastics championship, and no rhythmic-specific athletics scholarship pathway.
